Rolex, the brand whose name is known in every country of the world, is a Swiss luxury watch brand based in Geneva. Rolex is said to have “written the rule book” of the industry.
The brand is touching skies with its success that it does not even need an introduction but not everyone knows how it all started and gave us one of the best-known brands in the world. Here is a brief history of Rolex:
1905- Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis established Wilsdorf & Davis Ltd. in London.
1908- Registered “Rolex” trademark and opened an office in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland.
1910- Rolex got a swiss certificate, making it the first wristwatch ever to receive one.
1914- Awarded with a kew A certification.
1919- Rolex moved to Geneva, the capital of watchmaking.
1926- patented its first waterproof wristwatch.it was known as “Rolex Oyster”.
1931- Invented a self-winding mechanism with a perpetual rotor.
1945- The first Datejust watch was launched.
1946- Rolex became the first watch to remove the sound barrier.
1971- Partnered with COMEX which still lasts today.
1985- Started using 904L steel for watchmaking.
1992- The Pearlmaster and the Yachtmaster were launched.
2000- Assembled 4130 chronograph caliber movement making it simpler.
2005- professional model Cerachrom bezel was launched. Also launched BLUE PARA CHROME HAIRSPRING which was prestigious and more resistant to shocks.
2012- Launched The Sky-Dweller.
2013- Launched two-color Cerachrom bezel.
2014- Introduced a new Cellini collection. A new caliber 2236 featuring a Syloxi hairspring in silicon was developed for women watches.
2015- New caliber 3255 was used. Also introduced Oysterflex.
2017- Cellini moon phase was launched.
Rolex has given us a lot of “firsts” and continues doing so with their advancement and innovative ideas. It has created a brand value like no other and formed a big community of its loyal customers. Rolex truly changed the watch industry for everyone.
