Interviewed by The Success Today – A Digital Webzine.
Could you tell us about yourself and your work?
I will like to express my gratitude and appreciation to The Success Today for this incredible opportunity. I am Dr. Deepika Gupta. Born and brought up in Gorakhpur, UP, I spent some of my prime years of learning and education in Jabalpur, MP, and I am currently a certified dietitian in Pune and Maharashtra.
With over 15 years of experience in the nutrition and dietetics industry, I am also a member of the Indian Dietetics Association and have a Doctorate and Master’s degree in Nutrition. My areas of expertise include obesity, thyroid, PCOD/S, diabetes, hypertension, and all major lifestyle disorders and medical issues.
Before my diet consultation, I worked as a research scholar and lecturer at RDVV University in MP. I am glad to have been awarded a research fellowship for being among the top rankers in the UGC NET exam.
On the personal front, I am a proud mother of two beautiful daughters, Anvita and Shrinika, and have an extremely supportive and encouraging companion in my husband.
How are you and your service helping society?
Being a Nutritionist and Diet Counselor, I practice the basics of the Dietetics rule where I consider the whole medical, psychological, and emotional situation of patients while guiding them with the best diet chart. Being in this fast-paced world, the first thing that a patient looks for is empathy. I aim to talk to patients and give them ample time to understand their pain and lifestyle. The majority of physical health problems are rooted in psychological and mental health. Therefore, it is crucial to fully comprehend the patients before creating a diet plan specifically for them.
My primary goal is to explain and discuss the root cause of the issue with patients. I intend to educate my patients about their disease and different ways to handle it through diet and exercise. I do not want my patients to follow a diet chart blindly. I ensure they understand the “why” behind any recommendation I offer them. This entire counselling helps them lead a normal and fitter life, which promotes a healthy and educated society around us.
What is the USP of your work?
One thing that sets Eat2Nourishh apart from others is the consultation time we give to our patients. And based on the detailed consultation, we make custom diet plans suitable for their lifestyle and affordability. We also educate them about their issues and recommend something that is pocket-friendly.
What are your visions and missions?
My long-term vision is to enable a society free from obesity and other medical issues arising from wrong lifestyle choices by imparting knowledge of nutrition and by improving people’s nutritional health.
My mission is to make people aware of the power of nutrition.
What are your achievements in this industry?
There is still a long way to go, but what definitely feels like an achievement to me are the moments when I see the happy faces of my clients after the treatment. Their smiles and gratitude reassure me that I am making an impact in the right way.
Does your work ever feel tedious to you? If so, how do you stay driven and motivated towards it?
Well, apart from taking care of my patients, of course, I need to take care of my family too. So yes, it does become cumbersome sometimes. But every time a new appointment gets booked, it ignites a new spark of energy, and every time I get my patient’s feedback, it motivates me to keep moving ahead.
Another crucial aspect that helps me stay driven is that nutrition is not just an occupation for me, rather, it is my passion. I try to apply a lot of my nutritional knowledge to my family’s regular diet and give my health a good amount of priority. It all helps me stay connected with nutrition as a part of my life.
You have achieved so much in life. Any specific advice you’d like to share with our readers to grow in life?
Life is not a smooth journey. Everyone has their highs and lows; I have also got my fair share. But my optimism and desire were the two things that kept me inspired throughout.
So, I would advise our readers never to lose hope. And ambition does not need to be a definitive profession. Embrace the experiences and lessons life has in store for you and aim to make an impact by putting your knowledge into action.
What are your hobbies and specific interests other than your profession?
I love travelling and exploring new places. I also love cooking, experimenting with new recipes, and often try to blend nutrition with taste.
