Interviewed by The Success Today – A Digital Webzine.
Could you tell us about yourself and your work?
I first started working at the age of 20. I chose the field of fashion and did a diploma in fashion design for 2 years. This was my passion. I’ve always wanted to do this. I wanted to make fashion accessible to home workers at affordable prices. About me: I am not only a businesswoman but also the mother of a seven-year-old child! My life revolves around my family and my work only. I have been working in this industry for the past 14 years and I am grateful for whatever I have achieved till now.
How you and your service is helping society?
My service helps me do charity work. I also believe anyone can spend money, but time is a precious thing that you can give anyone. I often visit children’s homes and old age homes. I like to spend time with them and hear about their journey. It’s another thing that gives me the peace of mind I need in my hectic work schedule.
What is the USP of your work?
It’s a homegrown fashion brand and relates to every homemaker. Because, as I mentioned earlier, I wanted to make fashion accessible to homemakers, which I feel I partially achieved. To be very specific, I want to make sure not only homemakers but every woman out there feels confident wearing our article. I don’t follow fashion trends; I work according to my client’s preferences. In all these years, I have also seen so many of my clients switch their preferences from Indian to western or Indo-western because of my suggestions. I just make sure my client feels confident enough and comfortable enough wearing my article.
Another USP of our brand is customised articles. We do not restrict ourselves to any colour or size. We customise every article we sell in whatever colour and size we deem appropriate.
What are your vision and mission?
Our vision and mission are straightforward. Your ancestors didn’t have to consider quality, but today’s generation doesn’t have that luxury, and we want to provide that luxury. We want to innovate, lead, and enhance our offerings to provide the best-value products and services to global customers. To make a difference through our branding to stay ahead of fashion trends, market changes, and the latest technology. To enhance the quality of life for our business partners, customers, and employees.
What are your achievements in this industry?
Where do I even start? I used to have a store on rent, but now I have my store!
But I feel my greatest achievement is that in these past 14 years, I have seen people show their love and faith in us. Some clients have become family now, and these are the clients who have always supported us thick and thin. One of the biggest reasons for my journey and achievements is my family as well. I come from a joint family, and their values and teachings have always been with me. I’ll share one incident when I started my boutique. Earlier, my boutique’s name was “RICHA BOUTIQUE”, because my father advised me to name my boutique with my surname after marriage only, because sometimes when people make their brand and get famous, they get sceptical about changing their second name after marriage. So, I named my boutique “RICHA KATYAL” after marriage only. These are the values of my family for which I have made this long journey of 14 years so far.
Does your work ever feel tedious to you? If so, how do you stay driven and motivated towards it?
Yes, there was a time when my boutique caught fire and I almost gave up on everything. But it was my then-fiancé, who is now my husband, who inspired me. He was the one who constantly told me to restart the store. Also, my father’s guidance always helps me to stay motivated. He has always taught me to balance my work life and personal life and not to overthink things because you are unique and no one can steal your shine.
What are your hobbies and specific interests other than your profession?
I maintain an equilibrium between work and exercise. I am highly inclined towards gymming, gymnastics, yoga, dancing, and all-around keeping myself fit. Apart from this, I love to spend time with my family, especially my daughter, Ryka.
You have achieved so much in life. Is there any specific advice you’d like to share with our readers to help them grow in life?
The only mantra to grow in life is to be loyal and transparent with the people around you. Be yourself and be honest with whatever work you do. You must change certain thought processes and actions, and surround yourself with the right people who will encourage your growth, enlightenment, and state of awareness.
Be kind, be gentle, and do not hurt anyone’s sentiments!
