Shivaji Rao Gaekwad, popularly known as Rajinikanth was born in a Maharashtrian family in Bangalore, Karnataka in 1950. He has worked with many popular actors and is a Padma Bhushan (2000) and Padma Vibhushan awardee (2016).

He was the youngest amongst the four siblings. Rajinikanth lost his mother when he was just 9 years old and was taken care by his elder brother. His passion for acting began when he was very young and played roles at spiritual skits in his school, Ramakrishna Mission.


He also played the role of Eklavya’s friend in Mahabharata. After completing his studies, he worked as a porter and later as a conductor in Bangalore Transport Service to support his family’s financial needs. Along with his job he also continued working in Kannada plays. Later, he joined the Madras Film Institute to learn more about theatres, even though his family wasn’t that supportive.


In 1975, he began his film career with a Tamil film titled Apoorva Raagangal. The movie won 3 national awards back then. By 1978 he had shown up in about 20 movies.


At the age of 33, he got featured in Bollywood. His first movie was Andha Kanoon where he worked with Amitabh Bachchan who had been his inspiration and someone whom he mimicked in his regional movies.
Rajinikanth was diagnosed with Bronchitis and had to spend a lot of time in his treatments at various hospitals. Even after his deteriorating health, he released his movie Rana and Ra.One. He still continues to make movies.

He entered the political field in 2017 and has promised to stand in 2021’s Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections. Even at the age of 70, he still manages to entertain people and has always topped the trend!
