Guangdong OPPO Mobile Telecommunications Corp., Ltd is a Chinese consumer electronics and mobile communications company based in Dongguan, Guangdong founded by Tony Chen. The company is known mainly for its smartphones and makes MP3 players, portable media players, LCD-TVs, and Blu-ray players. Oppo launched its first smartwatch Oppo Watch in 2020 in its home market in China. OPPO along with OnePlus, Vivo, and Realme are subsidiaries of BBK Electronics Corporation.

OPPO was registered in China in 2001 and launched in 2004. Since then, they have expanded to over 40 countries and regions. In 2005, it launched the company’s 1st MP3 player and its 1st mobile phone- Smiley Face. The company’s first step of global expansion started in 2009 with its first product launch in Thailand.OPPO launched its 1st smartphone ‘Find’ in 2011 which was endorsed by Leonardo DiCaprio. In 2012, the company launched U701 with a revolutionary ‘face- beautification’ feature.

Oppo was the first brand to introduce motorized rotating cameras in 2013. Oppo also introduced the Ultra HD feature and 5X camera zoom technology as well. In 2014, it launched VOOC (Voltage Open Multi-step Constant-Current Charging), which was the revolution of charging technologies. The company introduced its 1st full-screen smartphone in Louvre in 2018.

In 2016, it became the top smartphone manufacturer in China as it had sold its smartphones at 200,000 retail outlets in China and its global market share reached Top 4. Whereas in 2019, it was ranked No.5th worldwide. Currently, Oppo is the leading 4G smartphone manufacturer in China, as per the latest data released by Trustdata, for the first quarter of 2020 in terms of smartphone shipments. The report claims that smartphone shipments from OPPO accounted for around 21.4% of the market share, leading to the domestic market. It has captured 12% of the Indian smartphone market.

Currently, it has more than 40,000 employees working on technological innovation. Since 2019, it has invested $1.4 billion in technological innovation furthering design through technology. Oppo has mainly been focusing on manufacturing more innovative camera phones and has also improved upon the mobile photography segment as well. Oppo started the revolution of introducing better selfie cameras on the market.
